prison conditions during the 1930’s, specifically the living conditions and
treatment of the prisoners.What is your
opinion about prisoner treatment during this time period?
The prison in the 1930s were worse then the prison we have now. The prisons in the 1930s were dirtier, harder, more violent and more people could kill each other's.
In the 1930's persons had different groups of people group one thru four group one was the most harmful. Black people had more time so they can work more
Colored people had longer life sentence than white people did. They had to do hand labor and work in the fields. Back then the prisoners wore white and black stripe suits. The food was not good, and if you were sick you were on your own.
They worked the prisoners, they didn't pay them, they Kept black people longer then white people, they beat them if they felt like beating them. They didn't get good food, and their living conditions were terrible, the warden got to keep all the money too.
I don't think prisoners should be treated like that, I feel like if you're gonna lock someone up you need to give them a chance to get a job in there earn a little bit of money and buy things. The prisons now are like that but the system is crazy, they're over flowing and they're getting rid of everyone they can as long as they aren't a violent offender
The prisoners were put to break stone and build thing they were not payed at all if you were African American the kept you longer in jail than the white people
Many of the prisons, were evil,and cruel to the prisoners. There were a lot of families that were broken because of blacks going into the jail longer than white people, When sometimes the white person deserved to be in the jail longer.
If you got sent to jail it's your problem because you probably did something wrong. But they should at least get a chance and get money for working. They also got treated horrible they got beat. they're wasn't really rich people.
The prison was very different then, now we are more easy then, then. Then they had to work now we jest sit in a prison cell. Sorry for all the "then's"
Some prison where very cruel to the prisoner they barely had food and hard labor.Also black people stay in longer than the white people because it was free labored and racism
I do not think that the prison people should be treated that way in the 1930's because they had to go to the streets and break rocks with a ax. Then they always had to wear chains. They were more black people than white people in prison.
The prisons had three times more black inmates then white inmates and so at this time they were very racist back then and they made them work a lot harder
It was not right because they work the whole time and their three breakers were only 30 to 1 hour break. It is also different compare to what we have now.
In the 1930's Prisons were not the same as today's . During the 1930's a lot of people were races because of that there was 3 times as much blacks than whites In prison. I think our prisons should be more like how they were back in the day then how they are now. I believe this should happen because there is a lot of people going to jail/ prison and liking it because of the luxury they have in there.
I think that they should stay this way because they used to treat them like slaves and did not even feed them, and they didn't let them defend themselves.
