Master and Servant

The relationship between master and servant was interesting. Research "the day in the life" of a servant in the Elizabethan era. What type of jobs did a servant do?  Were they paid well for their service?  Post your findings.

  8. Most servants in Elizabethan Era were men even the cooks. They were called personal attendant not slaves or servant. They were not allowed to present them as my 'p.a' . Female servants were called 'GentleWomen'. Only the queen was allowed to have 'Ladies In Waiting'. And some female servants were Nurses.

  10. In Elizabethan era, servants were hired at an annual wage, but, they were paid by the quarter. On an average, servants used to earn £2 to £5 per year

  13. Personal servants, or, personal attendants, as they were called, were separate from household grooms and maids. Specifically, personal attendant is a descriptive term than a title.

  14. There were gentlemen sergeants but they still dressed like gentlemen and not in rags like women did. Also servants were not democrats and they always had to obey their masters

  15. Most servants in the Elizabethan era were men including cook and gardeners. Woman servants were mainly nurses or mades. Only the rich had servants so the servants did not always deal with people with a good personality.

  16. Lexie and Tylor: A nurse in the Elizabethan Era would have been with a woman since either birth or either early childhood and would have tended to the needs of the woman and practically raised her from then on, while educating her.

  24. Queen Elizabeth's servants were literally Ladies, high born women. Her Ladies would wake her in morning, and bring her hot water with basins.
